What symptoms may occur?
Symptoms may include a weak or interrupted urine stream, straining and a feeling of incomplete emptying. Similar symptoms can have different causes, so a diagnosis cannot be made from symptoms alone.
How is it assessed?
After a medical history and examination, tests such as urine flow measurement, ultrasound, urethral imaging or cystoscopy may be needed. The location and length of the narrowing, and any previous procedures, are important when planning treatment.
Treatment approach
Endoscopic procedures and reconstructive surgery called urethroplasty are among the options considered after assessment. Some reconstructions use buccal mucosa tissue taken from inside the mouth. The approach is chosen with your doctor, taking your findings and previous treatments into account.
